This is not one of those sick false claims that will say anything to get you to buy whatever they are selling. This is the Gods honest truth.

On my own weight loss journey, I discovered a few facts about why we must get a good nights sleep in order for all our endeavors to pay off.

One of them is because our body performs certain functions only while we sleep. The main function that I want to talk about also affects how our body releases body fat to be burned for energy, which in turn would result in weight loss and fat loss.

The Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is what I am talking about. It is a naturally occurring chemical in our body that reaches it’s height in production in our 20’s. From there it starts to drop off. It is the major hormone emitted by our pituitary gland and is a key componenet of the endocrine system. It actually stimulates the production of another hormone-like substance called Insulin Growth Factor or IGF, which works directly with the HGH to regulate our metabolism and promote growth. HGH is released in short bursts throughout the day but 70% of production occurs while you are sleeping.

Important to note that once HGH reaches a certain level each day it trigger another hormone called somatostatin which then tells the pituitary gland to stop production of HGH for the day. The thing is that as we age, our production of somatostatin rises and so there is also less HGH and our bodies just don’t get rid of fat as easy as it did in our 20’s.

Are you still with me? Don’t despair. The pineal gland will actually produce another substance that helps you fall asleep and stay asleep. Melatonin. Melatonin like HGH decreases production as we age, however unlike HGH which is risky to take and extremely expensive and must be regulated by a doctor.*

Melatonin can be bought over the counter easily for a few bucks to ensure a good nights sleep which will result in an increase in HGH production naturally and more fat burning potential.

The other component of losing weight while you sleep has to do with muscle mass. I have said this before, that as we age it is uber importan-tay to keep muscle mass, and even build it. Whatever way you look at it you cannot overrate sleep.

I used to say sleep is over rated when I worked night shift and rarely got more than 4 hours a sleep each working day. Years later when I wasn’t working night shift for probably 10 years, I began claiming insomnia as my super power. But now I have found the cure to my non sleep cycle and am realizing the benefits of getting a good nights sleep.
