What is the one thing that summer brings each year that eliminates your appetite?


HEAT is the trickiest summertime appetite suppressant ever.

Seriously who feels like eating a big meal when it is 80 or 90 plus degrees outside?   This little trick works just as long as you keep hydrated. It is the perfect opportunity to fast. Use it to your advantage. Not only will you get the benefit of a day of fasting, but also if your summertime heat is reaching triple digits you have the added benefit of sweating which is one of the ways you know you are burning fat.  If you ever wonder where your fat goes when you “lose” it.  Two of the places are in your sweat and in your breath. When you sweat and when you are out of breath from vigorous activity is where your fat exits your body.                      Lucy and Ethel were on the right track.

There are few things to watch out for even though you might not be hungry.

Tank up: If you have taken my class or read my book you know that there is one thing you can do everyday that even if you do nothing else will take 4 pounds off over the course of a year. It is so simple. Drink ice water. 2 glasses upon rising and then at least 6 8oz glasses during the day. It is the perfect appetite suppressant. Try drinking a glass whenever you feel the angry beast growling in your tummy and it will surprisingly curb your appetite immediately and give you a few more hours to fast.

Know your kryptonite: You may feel like you need something cool instead of food….like ICE CREAM which although very good, will totally cancel out this little summertime weight loss opportunity. My Kryptonite is Hagen Daz Milk chocolate with almonds ice cream bars. Once I get started on them there is no stopping, especially the little mini ones. Needless to say I do not buy them. Once a year is all allow myself. A good alternative is to reach for a “Green Smoothies” (beware of ingredients: they are easy to load up on calories in a hurry)  or a nice “Skinny Drink“/ Virgin Mary( mixed with cucumber, tomato, celery and parsley) You can find tons of recipes for these concoctions online. Or you can just drink ICE WATER!

Use the summertime heat trick as leverage for getting ahead of the weight loss game while you can. Decrease the calorie intake during the summer and see the inches melt off you. Now when you are drenched in your car driving home you can smile and know you are losing FAT!
