I’ve got a secret. I’m weird. In case you haven’t already noticed, I like to do things a bit different and get amazing results. My fitness routine is way out there and many laugh at me, but someday they will be saying “Jan, you were so ahead of the fitness trend back in 2017”. That’s what they tell me now about my sense of style. Apparently I was a trend setter back in my high-school days. I was not aware of it, just always made my own clothes and liked to put things together that I liked. Now at age 62 when people recognize me that I went to high school with,  they remember how cool I dressed. Funny. It gets even funnier. Now I am very much into buying classic pieces that last forever. So I don’t like to just go shopping and I no longer sew my clothes. I have become and expert deal finder and a secret styler. What is a secret styler? Let me tell you (this is where it gets weird)

I love love love to go into stores that have a surplus of mismatched clothes, like Ross, K-Mart, and thrift stores, find the perfect piece and then go throughout the store to put a complete outfit together, right down to the shoes.  I then secretly leave it on the rack for someone to find and say, this is the perfect outfit for me, or whoever. Is that crazy or what?

I had some time to kill yesterday and put 3 rockin outfits together at Value Village (one of our local thrift stores, lovingly called ValooVilage’ by those of us that frequent it) I ended up buying one of them.

I know it is against my principles of not buying impulsively, but then when it comes home to my closet I will go through the closet and pick out something that I never wear and give it back to my favorite charity.

It also is very relaxing for me and soothes my need to create and takes my mind off of everything else in the world. It is my zen. My anti-drug.

During this time that I am secretly styling, I never think about food or needing to have a coffee, or what’s for dinner. Do you see where I am going here? This is my zone. I challenge you today to find your zone. Where is the place that totally gives you peace, that you never have to struggle with thoughts of overeating or sweet cravings? Once you find this place, choose instead to go there when you find yourself wanting to overeat or falling into habitual practices of eating whenever…..this or that happens.

Let me know what you find out. Are there any other secret stylers out there?

I’m not sure if the employees at the stores like me doing this, so shhhhh.
